Summer/Fall Road Trip 2023 - Pt 1

The trip from home to Stacie’s was for the most part uneventful and that’s a good thing at this point in my life. I did take a few notes each day that I’ll summarize here but that’s pretty much it.

The first two days were cloudy and off and on light rain which made it good for driving and being able to stop as needed. On the second day I heard that Jimmy Buffet had died the night before so I put on Margaritaville radio and left it there all day as a tribute. He was only a year older than me. Then I heard that former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson had died as well. He was my age that opens up a lot of reflection and appreciation for the fact that I’m still able to do what I can, while limited, with my health issues. Because I was in Ogden, Utah for the night I couldn’t find wine 🍷 to raise a glass but I was able to get a Bud Light. Bud Light goes better with Taco Bell anyway.

On the 3rd day we had some torrential rain west of Cheyenne I could see that we were driving into it for miles. The irony was I was listening to a Rockies game and just as they were having to put the tarp on the infield out sky opened up. This was also the first day of the trip that I was feeling off physically.

The fourth day was when we finally hit the 90’s again and that’s never pleasant traveling alone with a dog because you don’t even want to leave him in the car long enough to run in and use the restroom. We passed under the Gateway Monument on I 80 in Nebraska but other than that didn’t record much of the trip that’s why I made notes.

It wouldn’t be a road-trip post if it didn’t include at least one fast food post. I stopped at a Sonic because I was hoping they had a Hatch Green Chili Burger and they did. I pressed the order button and they said because of staff shortage we had to go through the drive through. πŸ™„. Two positives though. The burger was delicious and Charlie got a pup cup. 😊

The final morning on this leg of the trip Charlie was hilarious. He was pissed of and pouting because he kept waking me off and on all night because of far off thunder and no matter what I tried I couldn’t get him to relax. After about the 4th time and a couple of times after that I just started smacking him with a pillow and telling him to go to bed. He did finally settle down but the next morning he refused to get out of bed even when I brought him eggs from breakfast. πŸ˜‚

He did eventually get up and eat his eggs when I told him I was leaving. πŸ˜‚
