Further South - Pt. 2

Image
I got a call from Leah when I was about ten miles from Folkston to see where I was because she was going to take Fred to the ER. For a back injury. Since I was so close they said they’d wait and I went with them.  The ER was like every other ER and paranoia was high with all the people coughing and hacking. 🙄 I spent most of the time sitting on a bench or walking around outside. Leah and I drove to the Commissary at the Submarine Base because she needed milk but it was closed on Monday. It was a break from waiting around though.  When Fred was done we went for margaritas and Mexican food that was really good. Then we stopped at Chik Filet where their granddaughter Morgan worked for chocolate shakes. Unfortunately then spent the night suffering from acid reflux. 😩 I always look forward to good breakfast at Fred and Leah’s including prime rib and eggs this time. 😋 And that’s always after we start with coffee on the porch with the dogs. Fortunately they have an overhead fan o...

Heading Further South - Pt. 1

The plan is to make the most of the trip to and from Cocoa Beach by visiting friends on the way and spending some time with them.  The first stop was at Joe and Judy’s in Lebanon, Tennessee. We watched the Democratic National Convention and just hung out catching up. The first night we went out in Lebanon and I had a pimento cheese burger and man was it good. The biggest disappointment is that there wasn’t any fried okra on the menu. 😞 The next night Joe made dinner after we went to a the farmers market and got some tomatoes and zucchini and then he made fried okra for the first time and it was really good.  Then it was south to Athens, Georgia to spend a few days with Clarence. We didn’t do much just watched some movies, talked and ate some good food. The first two days Clarence made breakfast something he has always done. The first night he made tacos another thing he does well. The next afternoon we went to a place we always go, Ted’s Most Best for a pizza. The only negati...

Grover - Part 1

It’s Monday August 19th, it’s hard to believe I got here just a week ago. They have such busy lives. A lot going on. Pretty much their normal life. 😊  The first two nights Tom grilled. I can’t remember the last time he was home an entire week when I’ve been here. And one night Stacie made spaghetti something I always look forward to when I visit. I’ve mentioned before in my blogs that people laugh because I post so much about food but it really is what a lot of memories are made around. 😊.  Stacie and I had lunch at El Maguey one day and we all went out to a barbecue restaurant one night.  And after the barbecue dinner the kids gave me my birthday gift including a bottle of wine with a label adjustment 😂. They also got me an ice cream cake we still haven’t cut into because of our schedules. Everyone was too full Saturday and we ate at the rink Sunday and didn’t get home until late from Haley’s first AA game. It was an outstanding game that ended with a 1-1 tie. Earlier...

Big Schedule Change - IIWII 🤷‍♂️

Image
The day before I was supposed to get my treatment the scheduler from WVCI called and told me my meds had been sent to the wrong place and I wouldn’t be able to get my treatment on Friday. I had planned to leave for St. Louis on Saturday. She told me I could reschedule for Tuesday. So I did. 🤷‍♂️ So as soon as I hung up I got on line and canceled rooms in Ontario, OR, Evanston, WY and Salina, KS. I then texted Spell and told him I wouldn’t be arriving at his house until Friday instead of Monday as planned. I waited a couple days and then rebooked rooms and decided to forego a side trip to Colorado Springs until maybe on the return trip.  The Trip Out The first two days were driving through smoke from wildfires. As you can see from this Oregon fire map the west was burning and Idaho was no better.  After the first two days the driving was better. We were out of the smoke and it stayed cloudy and even a little foggy all through Wyoming and even when we got to Colorado it stayed ...
