Change of Plans

Image
A couple of entries ago I wrote out a tentative plan to reach my goal of racing in 48 states. Although it doesn’t have a direct impact on my reaching the goal I had to change plans this past week. I was going to go to Salt Lake City to possibly do a 5k while Joe Brazil raced a half marathon. Unpredictable weather initially made me cancel the trip and then the way I felt for a few days reinforced that I made the right decision. So I was all packed and ready with no place to go.  The good news is that it’ll be less I have to do to get ready for the next part of my plan, heading to Colorado Springs a week from today for the start of my trip to St. Louis and hopefully on to the East Coast twice to get the last 4 states. I get my treatment on Thursday and hope for a recharge before leaving. I went so far as to reserve hotels for the trip to the Springs, Stacie’s and then to race in Maine and Vermont and I registered for the Maine and Vermont races. It’ll be midway through my treatment c...

Milestones

Image
I’m still trying to reach milestones in “racing”. Last night I met Smitty at Alton Baker Park for the Oregon Track Club monthly run. I just signed up for the mile again. I felt better than before the last one and thought I’d have a faster race. Ironically I didn’t have plans to try to “push” it though because I thought it was Smitty’s first race since his heart attack so we basically just walked “fast” and caught up. The reason I say ironically is because I didn’t know Smitty had already done a 34 minute 5K earlier this month. So for the first time in a long time I finished a race without feeling like death warmed over.  The milestone yesterday was doing my 100th race since turning 70. Hopefully there will be more races to come because I still have goals.  This morning (4-14-23) I was looking at Instagram and saw a post that perfectly described what it’s like just trying to deal with living with PNH day to day. Here it is, so well said.
