Change of Plans
A couple of entries ago I wrote out a tentative plan to reach my goal of racing in 48 states. Although it doesn’t have a direct impact on my reaching the goal I had to change plans this past week. I was going to go to Salt Lake City to possibly do a 5k while Joe Brazil raced a half marathon. Unpredictable weather initially made me cancel the trip and then the way I felt for a few days reinforced that I made the right decision. So I was all packed and ready with no place to go.

The good news is that it’ll be less I have to do to get ready for the next part of my plan, heading to Colorado Springs a week from today for the start of my trip to St. Louis and hopefully on to the East Coast twice to get the last 4 states. I get my treatment on Thursday and hope for a recharge before leaving. I went so far as to reserve hotels for the trip to the Springs, Stacie’s and then to race in Maine and Vermont and I registered for the Maine and Vermont races. It’ll be midway through my treatment cycle so hopefully all will go well.

People think I’m joking when I tell them my biggest accomplishment some days is simply taking a shower. Many days I start thinking about it as soon as I get up in the morning and it’s not until 3 or 4 after a nap when I finally have the energy to do it. And speaking of energy obviously everything going forward to reach my goal will be dictated by it or the lack of it!

Speaking of treatment I’ve started following a few more people with PNH on Instagram and it’s amazing how much they say and feel the same things that I do. One is a young woman from Scotland who was diagnosed seven years ago and at the time was only the 19th diagnosis in Scotland. Another amazingly is one of my former Sierra track athletes who now lives in Virginia and there are a few more. Here are just some of the things that I’ve read from people with PNH.
