Life Without Running Vol 4 - Final Oregon Days

While most of my final days in Oregon were spent packing, cleaning and getting rid of stuff I did do the Butte to Butte 5K on the 4th of July and I had tickets for the USATF Track and Field Championships for all four days. I went to the first three but skipped the fourth day because I was worn down and knew I had to load my U Haul and get on the road in just a couple of days.

Here it is three months later and sadly I think the reality is my Butte to Butte 5K is probably the last one I’ll ever be able to do. I had said if I got to the point where I couldn’t do a 5k under an hour then I’d probably have to hang it up. My time was 1:00.48. 🤷‍♂️ Am I done? My spirit says no my physical abilities say yes. Maybe I’ll still try to do mile races if I can see some improvement in my health. 🤞. True wishful thinking.

Traditionally after this race we’d meet down by the river in the park and Smitty would cook blueberry pancakes. It was always a fun time but I physically couldn’t find the energy to stay. That was my 58th race since my PNH Diagnosis.

The track meet was outstanding and I enjoyed it while I was there. I got a new picture with Emma Coburn without our mask this time. And on my way out the last day I went I got a picture with, Tinch, our hurdler who went on to become the World Champion in the 110 hurdles.

The coolest pictures I got though were with Sarah Schwald who was Stacie’s babysitter in Colorado Springs as well as her daughter one of the top high school runners in Oregon.

Smitty took me to Abby’s for my birthday and I got to talk to Noah Lyles and wish him luck.

Finally it was load the truck and hit the road.
