Summer/Fall 2023 Road Trip - Pt 4

I’ve seen Buc-ees service centers all over during my travels but never stopped at one until this trip because they’re always so crowded and I never wanted to leave Charlie alone for long. Since Clarence was with me it seemed like a good time to stop so we could trade off staying with Charlie. Let me just say that place is a trip. It’s like a shopping mall in there. It was also a shaky place to walk Charlie. 😳

As usual Clarence and I knew we would be keeping our political opinions to ourselves while visiting Fred and Leah. I had a harder time than usual when we arrived and the beer they offered was either Miller Lite or Yuengling 😳. Fred always drank Ultra when we visited but it turned out that they joined the Bud Light boycott and included all AB products. That’s when I knew they were so far into the cult of MAGA that we’d never find common ground.

They have a new moonshine distillery just across the border so our first toast was sampling their Vanilla and Butterscotch shine. They were surprisingly smooth.

The next night we went to a Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp baseball game with friends of theirs, a sales rep for Yuengling. Thus when he bought the first round it didn’t do any good for me to ask for Bud Light. πŸ˜‚

As soon as we got inside the stadium I bought the next round and you can be sure it included Bud Light for Clarence and me.

One thing that never changes when we visit Folkston is having a good breakfast. Coffee, food and conversation starts every day and I can’t think of a better way to do it. 😊

Saturday night we went to Uncle Dum Dum’s moonshine distillery. It was definitely a new experience. 35 different flavors of shine and you could sample as many as you wanted as many times as you wanted. It was an interesting place and we got a tour of the back where the magic happens.

When we took this picture we didn’t know the sign was behind us. πŸ˜‚

I bought a bottle of cranberry shine to give Stacie and Tom. I hope they enjoy it with friends during the holidays.

Oh and the Bud Light I left in Fred’s refrigerator? It made its way to their house on the river in Florida and needless to say it wasn’t thrown out. πŸ˜‚
