Deep Freeze 🥶

It started so small. Just some freezing drizzle but I gave my sister a heads up that she might have to come over and help me get my door open from the outside in the morning because ice builds up on my deck and blocks the door. Sure enough I was right.

And the it just got worse and continued to get worse for days. I got a pry bar from the tool room and chipped ice in a large area around the door that day and had to do it multiple times a day obviously having to pace myself.

And those are some pictures from the next morning. Needless to say we lost power but thank goodness Brandy had put in a generator that powers the entire place. I could hear trees breaking all day and night. Sounding like gun shots. Even without seeing the damage you knew it was going to be bad and leave a lot of cleanup and repair behind. One thought I had that second night was thank God we don’t have trees directly over our buildings or trailers.

After the temp warmed up and seemed that it would stay up the melt started and with it more problems. Our large tree out front lost branches that led to blocking of our culverts which led to backup and flooding. Thankfully our neighbor brought equipment over and we were able to at least get it running enough to stop flooding of our property.

Fortunately I managed to keep my water until the last day by leaving it dripping overnight until the last night when I turned it on before 6:00 and it had already frozen and wouldn’t come back until the thaw.

After the freeze I went back to the back pastures and took pictures of some of the destruction.

As bad as it was I can’t even imagine what it would have been like without the generator and all the work my sister did to keep this place running.

Charlie was so done with it.
