Road Weary! Spring ‘24 Road Trip
On March 7th the sun finally started to find a little area on my deck and Charlie loved it. I looked at the weather ten days out to see if we were trending better, checked the date of my treatment, March 29th and decided to hopefully leave for Saint Louis on the 30th.
One of the first things I did to prep for my trip was update my “luggage” 😂.
I did two races in Oregon prior to leaving on the trip hoping that maybe that would help me be able to do a couple of races while in St. Louis.
As it turned out I didn’t do either race. The first because it conflicted with game schedules and I didn’t want to miss any games and the second because of a tornado watch. 🤷♂️
The Trip Out
One thing I’ve said multiple times when scheduling trips the last few years is that I’m fortunate to have flexibility with my travel schedule. My original itinerary had me stopping in Lodi, Needles, Albuquerque, and Joplin before getting to Stacie’s on the fifth day. After the first two days I was so worn out I knew I needed to change the itinerary and shorten my drives and add an extra day to the trip out. This was my mileage at the end of day two.
I stayed just behind the bad weather the majority of the trip. These pictures were taken just before reaching Needles, CA.
The stays after Needles were, Gallup, Amarillo and Tulsa. I got a really good green chili cheeseburger at Blakes in Gallup. You can see I was still dealing with weather.
Not many highlights on the trip out but that was fine the trip objective was to get to Stacie’s without being to worn out so I could see the kids do their sports and spend time with family. While I was in fact tired when I got there I didn’t feel too bad. Here was my final mileage for the trip out.
