Carol’s Visit, Then a Trip to the Coast



Carol surprised us with a visit for a few days. It’s the first time since Patterson that the three of us have been together. We had a good breakfast at TJs one morning and it was good as usual. That was just one meal we went out to eat and visit. 



I had steak and eggs which was really good and a tequila sunrise that was too sweet. 😋

Jack came with Carol and while it was good to see him it was sad seeing how bad off he is physically. He can’t move anything below his chest. Mentally he is doing great so Carol is struggling with the decision to let go. 😞





The trip over to Florence was short but it was a lot of fun and laughs being together with friends. The first night after Smitty, Joe. Charlie and I got back from a quick trip to the North Jetty beach I even got out of my comfort zone and at the shrimp scampi that they fixed for dinner. All of the salad ingredients as well as the zucchini noodles and the pesto came from their garden. And the biscuits were the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay recipe. I knew they were having something sea foody so I had even brought my own chili and pasta to microwave if necessary. 😂



The next morning Charlie and I got out early for a short walk hoping to find some coffee. Nothing was open but Smitty and Denise were up and coffee was on when we got back. 



Smitty and I decided to walk to the coffee shop at the Port and have Joe meet us there. 



It was cool sitting right on the water having coffee and watching seals and seeing the bridge raise to allow a sailboat to pass through. 







Then we went to the beach so that Denise could try out a chair that could be used in the sand. 









I put Denise in quotes because as you can see Smitty had to take it for a test ride on the beach while we waited for the volunteer to return and check it in. 😂

Life Without Running Vol 4 - Final Oregon Days

While most of my final days in Oregon were spent packing, cleaning and getting rid of stuff I did do the Butte to Butte 5K on the 4th of July and I had tickets for the USATF Track and Field Championships for all four days. I went to the first three but skipped the fourth day because I was worn down and knew I had to load my U Haul and get on the road in just a couple of days. Here it is three months later and sadly I think the reality is my Butte to Butte 5K is probably the last one I’ll ever be able to do. I had said if I got to the point where I couldn’t do a 5k under an hour then I’d probably have to hang it up. My time was 1:00.48. 🤷‍♂️ Am I done? My spirit says no my physical abilities say yes. Maybe I’ll still try to do mile races if I can see some improvement in my health. 🤞. True wishful thinking. Christmas Traditions 🎄

​the best part about this Christmas was getting to share it with Stacie’s family for the first time since 2018. They do such a great job keeping traditions alive and it makes everything even more special.  Starting with food 😊.  The morning started with an amazing sun out front and a beautiful view out back.  Then it was coffee and cinnamon rolls and breakfast burritos until the kids got up. 😊 And of course the dogs played a central role until the were worn out   The best part of the entire Christmas as I already said was spending time with family. 😍 And of course we had our traditional Christmas meal of brisket with Mac and cheese and sides.  It’s pretty obvious that Koda and Charlie were worn out by the end of the day. Dogs & Kids Acrivities

​I got Charlie a groomer when we got here and while I was a little shocked when they brought him out the first time I have to admit I like his new look.  The other dog news is that the kids got a new dog, Koda. She’s a beautiful and smart dog.  As far as the kids activities let’s just say there are to many to mention them all. I am so proud of how well they’ve adapted to the move, new teams and new school.  Just a few of the things they’ve already done. Chase getting his senior backpack, painting his senior parking spot, homecoming, qualifying for state DECA at the District meet, getting accepted to CSU, volunteer work at the Humane Society and of course hockey.  Same for Haley busy and having so much going on. Getting her drivers permit, National Honor Society, homecoming, volunteering at multiple places through Global Leaders and playing for two hockey teams.  November had a couple of landmark events as far as my apartment.
