Life Without Running - Volume Three.


Trip Prep 😳
Getting ready for another extended road trip with Charlie. It’s getting harder to think about all the driving and time on the road for a trip to Florida again but I really want to try to see everyone again. 

It doesn’t help that the entire western United States is on fire again this summer. We’re just going to head out Saturday after my treatment Friday and take it day to day and with the fires maybe even hour to hour. Age is a deterrent to travel for sure but it’s really compounded by illness. It’s Monday the 29th of July right now as I write this and I may try to write a little each day until we hit the road Saturday. 

Last night Charlie and I went to Smitty’s and had a nice dinner and visit. Tonight I’m supposed to go out to eat with Donna and Brandy for my birthday. 

I’ve tried to get ahead of trip prep with the hope of being all done packing and mostly loading tomorrow before my Lab and Doctor appointment Wednesday. So far today is off to a rough start with very low energy and feeling very fatigued. 🤷‍♂️ Charlie has an appointment at the vet to get a heart worm test and then meds. I don’t like taking him south without precautions. Also going to drop laundry off while I’m out so I can pick it up tomorrow to complete packing. 

Donna took Brandy and I to dinner at Axe and Fiddle for my birthday. Then on my birthday Brandy took Donna and I to TJ’s for dinner. My waitress comped my beer for my birthday. 🍻

Life Without Running Vol 4 - Final Oregon Days

While most of my final days in Oregon were spent packing, cleaning and getting rid of stuff I did do the Butte to Butte 5K on the 4th of July and I had tickets for the USATF Track and Field Championships for all four days. I went to the first three but skipped the fourth day because I was worn down and knew I had to load my U Haul and get on the road in just a couple of days. Here it is three months later and sadly I think the reality is my Butte to Butte 5K is probably the last one I’ll ever be able to do. I had said if I got to the point where I couldn’t do a 5k under an hour then I’d probably have to hang it up. My time was 1:00.48. 🤷‍♂️ Am I done? My spirit says no my physical abilities say yes. Maybe I’ll still try to do mile races if I can see some improvement in my health. 🤞. True wishful thinking. Christmas Traditions 🎄

​the best part about this Christmas was getting to share it with Stacie’s family for the first time since 2018. They do such a great job keeping traditions alive and it makes everything even more special.  Starting with food 😊.  The morning started with an amazing sun out front and a beautiful view out back.  Then it was coffee and cinnamon rolls and breakfast burritos until the kids got up. 😊 And of course the dogs played a central role until the were worn out   The best part of the entire Christmas as I already said was spending time with family. 😍 And of course we had our traditional Christmas meal of brisket with Mac and cheese and sides.  It’s pretty obvious that Koda and Charlie were worn out by the end of the day. When Charlie and I went downstairs to call it a day he made sure I wasn’t going to leave without him by getting in my suitcase and sleeping there all night.  The next day I took Charlie home, unloaded the car and headed to the Rocky Moun...

Dogs & Kids Acrivities

​I got Charlie a groomer when we got here and while I was a little shocked when they brought him out the first time I have to admit I like his new look.  The other dog news is that the kids got a new dog, Koda. She’s a beautiful and smart dog.  As far as the kids activities let’s just say there are to many to mention them all. I am so proud of how well they’ve adapted to the move, new teams and new school.  Just a few of the things they’ve already done. Chase getting his senior backpack, painting his senior parking spot, homecoming, qualifying for state DECA at the District meet, getting accepted to CSU, volunteer work at the Humane Society and of course hockey.  Same for Haley busy and having so much going on. Getting her drivers permit, National Honor Society, homecoming, volunteering at multiple places through Global Leaders and playing for two hockey teams.  November had a couple of landmark events as far as my apartment.
