Ruidoso Wildfires

I’ve always dreaded the possibility of these type of fires and these were finally the ones that very nearly took out the house we owned on Shady Lane, Sam and Lois’ house in Ponderosa Heights and Ken and Kristy’s house in Alto. When I first Heard about the fires I called Kristi to see if they were in any danger. That’s why I got some background and she gave me a website where I could follow the progress of the fires.

As it happened, Kristi was on vacation in Colorado when I reached her and she told me that Ken and Ridley evacuated to Alamogordo so they were safe, but their house was definitely at risk.

These maps show just how close it came. It was a miracle that Ken and Kristy’s house was saved.

I got more bad news from Ruidoso on July 1st when Kristy sent me a link to Paul Crown’s obituary. He passed away June 12th just before the fires. Paul and his first wife Sonja were our closest friends in Ruidoso. We still use the wooden trains he made as part of our Christmas decorations. He called his woodworking business PC Originals and he was certainly a unique individual with a big personality and a bigger heart.
