Spring Road Trip Pt. 2 - Colorado

The trip to Colorado was uneventful and that’s always a good thing. The low point was watching the Bruins bow out of the playoffs earlier than anticipated.

We spent our first night in Colorado at the Spells and Anna prepared some really good tamales we were easing into Cinco de Mayo “season”. πŸ«” I even got Republican Rob to drink Bud Light with me despite giving him a hard time about being a Pence lookalike.

The next day on the way to Joe’s in Monument we made a stop at the Greenland Open Space for a short walk. I was working my way up in altitude to hopefully prepare for a few days at altitude including a Reunion Run at Garden of the Gods.

I knew race day, the 6th would dictate what I probably shouldn’t eat for pre-race Cinco deMayo so we decided to do our meal on Cinco de Tres. I found a place online called Torchy’s Tacos and since my Hot Stuff tattoo was their trademark I knew it was the place to go for a margarita and Mexican. As usual food will have a central part in this road-trip blog. 😊

The next morning I had breakfast with Ron Payton, Jim Brady and Chris Erickson at Western Omelette. I always try to meet at least once with them for a meal if possible when I’m in the Springs. I even took a chance with the green chili and it was delicious as always.

That night Joe made a nice carbo heavy meal two days before race day. It was good as his meals usually are.

Then the next morning we had a fantastic breakfast at the YMCA just down the street from Joe’s. It wasn’t all eating though between meals I got to binge and catch up on Ted Lasso. 😊

That night we had the rest of our carb meal before racing the next day. It was just as good as the first time.

REUNION RUN - GARDEN of the GODS

We got an early start taking the dogs out before leaving for the race. It was a beautiful morning for a race. When Joe’s friend Brad showed up we headed out to meet everyone else at the race. I was looking forward to reconnecting.

The day and the weather continued to be beautiful and the course was just as challenging as I expected with the first mile being all uphill.

Every time I’m fortunate enough to get back to Colorado and do a race with friends it’s a blessing and this one was no exception. Rashaan, Walter, Gerald, Joe and Spell were all there as well as Gerald’s wife Kari and Brad. After the race we went back to Joes for beer and brats. It was a hard, challenging race for me but worth the effort to share the experience with friends.
