Time to Wrap This Up
It’s time for another birthday (75) and we’re tired. The “races” are getting fewer and fewer so maybe the title of this blog that I started a year ago was prophetic. The title was initially thought of because almost 100% of my races had simply become fast walks but because they were still competitive events I felt like I was still attempting to compete. I’m at a crossroads right now and having a hard time deciding whether I even want to do anymore races. So much of the past 15 years has been enriched because of racing for so many reasons, family, friends, travel, goals to set and so on. As you can read in some of my other blogs, the race was often the catalyst for both short and long road trips. Sitting here right now I obviously don’t have to make a decision but I do find myself thinking about it a lot. Time will tell I guess.
I’m kind of in limbo with my PNH right now and obviously that makes it difficult to make decisions much less long range plans. My labs before each of my last two treatments have shown back to back drops in my hemoglobin so my oncologist is going to have me start doing labs more frequently for a while and see if we can get it straightened out at least at current level’s with no further drops. He said if necessary my treatments would become more frequent and even mentioned the possibility of trying different medication. Hopefully we can just get it straightened out because I feel “somewhat decent” on the Ultomiris. Shorter time between treatments would make it harder to travel as well and physically that’s getting harder as it is. Oh well, enough whining. I’m fortunate that I can at least have it somewhat under control.
Had a good breakfast in Cottage Grove with Smitty last week and went to lunch with Donna this week other than that not a lot going on so I occasionally treat myself to a meal I enjoy but don’t get to often, usually when I go to appointments. Little Caesars pretzel crust, Jack in the Box 3 taco combo and a breakfast burrito from Burrito Boy something I haven’t had in a few months. Maybe more frequent blood work will mean more frequent Burrito Boy.
I managed to get 20 in person races since my last birthday including finishing racing in each of the 48 states. So despite the title of the blog, “Life Without Running” I still managed to get something’s done. Now let’s see what 75 brings.
Race Totals to Date
Since turning 60 - 357
Since turning 70 - 106
Since my PNH Diagnosis- 48
